Field hosts The New Edge, a two-hour weekly radio program broadcasting and webcasting Tuesday afternoons from 2-4pm Boston time on WMBR, 88.1FM in Cambridge. The show features innovative and creative mostly instrumental music at the boundaries of classical, jazz, and world styles.

Since 1992 Field has organized the Norman J Field Lectures in Science in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The free annual lecture, a memorial to his late father, Dr. Norman J Field, takes place in the fall, with a distinguished lecturer chosen each year to speak on a scientific topic of general interest.

For over 15 years, Field served as a volunteer tutor in math, English, and other subjects for Cambridge elementary and middle school students through the one-on-one program of Tutoring Plus, where he is now a member of the Board of Directors.

Field co-originated & co-directed Cultural Constructions, a bi-annual concert, now on hiatus, formerly hosted by the ICA in Boston in which four musicians from four different musical cultures were brought together to perform as a single ensemble.

Field is on the organizing committee for HONK! Festival, an annual gathering of activist brass bands from around the world, taking place for the 3rd time over Columbus Day weekend (Oct 10-12, 2008) in and around Davis Square, Somerville.

A member since 1997, Field currently serves as Chair of the Cambridge (MA) Bicycle Committee, whose mission is to encourage safe bicycling through educational and infrastructure initiatives.

Formerly on the faculty of the Music Maker School, Field is now accepting private students at all levels on saxophone, flute, and clarinet.
